1,2- naphthoquinone -4- ammonium sulfonate reacts with sulfur in methanol to obtain methoxynaphthoquinone, and then it is hydrolyzed with sodium hydroxide to obtain 2- hydroxy -1,4- naphthoquinone. The yield is 58-65%. Commonly used as hair dye and bactericide.
