Pesticide imports at Paranagua container terminal up 95%

TCP, which manages the Paranagua Container Terminal, saw a 95% increase in pesticide shipments between January and August 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. In total, more than 166,000 tons of products were imported. Challenges in foreign trade, government interests and importer strategies affected growth.

One of the top importers of pesticides in TCP is CHD’s do Brasil, which saw a 700% increase in the purchase of such products in the first few months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. According to Leila Zorzetto, Director of Partnerships at CHD’S, “The increase in imports is mainly due to our growth in the market and the expansion of our product portfolio with the approval of new registrations.
Rising emissions from federally mandated imports of new pesticides have contributed to the increased movement in the sector. In 2021 alone, 562 such products will be authorized, according to the Department of Agriculture. Another reason for the surge in imports is the dry climate, which makes the environment conducive to the reproduction of pests and diseases.
